Finance / General Ledger (GL) Subject Matter Expert

Greater Toronto Canada (Secondary option is NYC)

Hybrid Role

Our Client is seeking a Finance / General Ledger (GL) Subject Matter Expert (SME) to play a pivotal role in a large-scale platform transformation within their Capital Markets group. The SME will be responsible for supporting the design, mapping, and validation of financial data and reporting, ensuring data integrity and alignment across Finance systems. This role requires a deep understanding of internal GL processes, regulatory reporting, and end-to-end financial data flows across multiple systems and business lines. Key duties include leading and validating BPS-to-GL mapping, reviewing and approving T-chart accounting entries for compliance, analyzing and mapping Finance and Regulatory Reports (including MFR and Legal Entity reporting), and reconciling GL to subledger balances. The SME will also lead data mapping for Income Statement and Balance Sheet items such as commissions, margin, interest, transfer pricing, investor advisor compensation, margin loans, and dealer due-to/due-from balances. Additional responsibilities include supporting Branch P&L and Management Reporting initiatives, validating financial accuracy post-migration, assessing FX impacts, and acting as a key liaison between Finance, Technology, and Business teams to resolve cross-program issues. The ideal candidate will have over seven years of experience in Finance, Accounting, or Capital Markets, with strong expertise in GL and subledger systems, financial data mapping, and regulatory reporting, as well as advanced Excel and stakeholder management skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience in Finance, Accounting, or Capital Markets, with strong exposure to General Ledger and subledger systems
  • Hands-on experience with internal General Ledger (S4 platform) strongly preferred
  • Proven expertise in financial data mapping, reconciliations, and accounting validation
  • Strong understanding of regulatory, management, and legal entity reporting
  • Advanced Excel and financial systems analysis skills; experience with transformation or migration programs preferred
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across Finance, Technology, and Operations teams

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as subject matter expert for internal General Ledger (S4 platform), ensuring data integrity and system alignment across Finance systems
  • Lead and validate BPS-to-GL mapping for accurate and complete financial data integration
  • Review and approve T-chart accounting entries, verifying compliance with Finance standards and controls
  • Analyze and map Finance and Regulatory Reports (including MFR and Legal Entity reporting) to new platform structure, ensuring reporting accuracy
  • Perform and reconcile GL to subledger balances for Finance-related activity
  • Lead data mapping for Income Statement and Balance Sheet, including commissions, margin, segregated balances, interest, transfer pricing, investor advisor compensation, margin loans, and dealer due-to/due-from balances
  • Support Branch P&L and Management Reporting initiatives by validating financial accuracy post-migration
  • Assess and document FX handling and impacts on financial results and system flows
  • Act as a key liaison between Finance, Technology, and Business teams to identify and resolve cross-program issues impacting Finance
  • Track and report on issues, actions, and key deliverables to ensure Finance workstream transparency and timely resolution
