Payroll & Equity Accountant

Houston, TX

Onsite

Compensation: $85,000 – $105,000 per year (DOE)

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client, a leading organization in the Oil & Gas sector, is seeking an experienced Payroll & Equity Accountant to join their team onsite in Houston, TX. This direct placement role is responsible for managing and administering equity compensation programs across the United States and Canada, including equity plan administration, tax cash clearing, general ledger accounting, and ensuring the accurate recording and reconciliation of all equity-related payroll and tax obligations. The ideal candidate is a payroll professional who has developed strong equity accounting knowledge and understands how equity events flow through payroll, taxes, and the general ledger. This position requires close collaboration with payroll, tax, and compensation teams, as well as frequent correspondence with external vendors, to support employee stock plans and ensure compliance with all equity-driven transactions.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Administer and manage equity compensation plans and stock processing for U.S. and Canada employees
  • Handle tax cash clearing, general ledger entries, and reconciliations related to equity activities
  • Support employee stock purchase plans (ESPP) and ensure accurate accounting processes
  • Collaborate closely with payroll and tax teams on equity-driven transactions and compliance requirements
  • Communicate regularly with internal Compensation teams and external vendors regarding employee vesting and equity events
  • Monitor interfaces and off-cycle processes to ensure timely and accurate processing of equity transactions
  • Ensure proper recording and reconciliation of all equity-related payroll and tax obligations, including estimated tax payments
  • Maintain familiarity with cross-border equity tax treatment (U.S. and Canada) and related reconciliations
  • Utilize enterprise payroll and accounting systems such as ADP GlobalView, SAP S/4HANA, Blackline, and SmartCompliance as needed
  • Support compliance with all internal controls and regulatory requirements related to equity compensation and payroll accounting

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 4+ years of experience in payroll with substantial equity accounting or equity plan administration exposure
  • Strong knowledge of RSU income inclusion, option exercise taxation, ESPP tax treatment, and general ledger impact of equity events
  • Experience with estimated tax payments and equity-related reconciliations
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Familiarity with cross-border equity tax treatment (U.S. and Canada) highly preferred
  • Experience with ADP GlobalView in a large enterprise payroll environment
  • Payroll professionals who have transitioned into equity accounting roles are strongly preferred
  • SAP S/4HANA and Blackline experience preferred
  • SmartCompliance and large enterprise equity accounting experience preferred
  • CEP (Certified Equity Professional) or CPP designation is a plus
