Accountant I (Contract)

Oklahoma City, OK

On-Site role

$22 – $24 per hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM

Duration: 3-6 Month Contract (extension potential)

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is seeking an Accountant I (Contract) to join their benefits and insurance accounting team in Oklahoma City, OK. This onsite role is responsible for maintaining and reconciling member and employer accounts, processing payments, researching account issues, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records. The position is ideal for someone with experience in accounting, bookkeeping, accounts receivable, insurance, benefits administration, or billing who enjoys working with financial data, resolving discrepancies, and providing excellent customer service. This is a 3-6 month contract position with the potential for extension, offering a Monday-Friday schedule and competitive hourly pay.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Review, analyze, and reconcile account transactions
  • Post and apply payments accurately and timely
  • Maintain accounts receivable records
  • Research and resolve billing and payment discrepancies
  • Process account adjustments, refunds, and returned payments
  • Respond to customer inquiries related to billing and account activity
  • Generate correspondence and documentation as needed
  • Run reports and assist with special projects
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive personal and financial information
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accuracy and compliance

WHAT YOU BRING

  • At least 2 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, accounts receivable, insurance administration, benefits administration, or a related field
  • Experience reconciling accounts and researching discrepancies
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Experience in healthcare, insurance, or employee benefits environments is a plus
  • Familiarity with medical or insurance terminology is helpful
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field (preferred)
  • Experience working with insurance billing, benefits administration, or premium accounting (preferred)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (preferred)
