Payroll Accountant (Junior & Senior)
On-Site Role
$70,000–$85,000 per year

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our Client is seeking both junior and senior Payroll Accountants to support payroll accounting operations within a large enterprise environment. These roles are responsible for maintaining accurate general ledger entries related to payroll, performing balance sheet reconciliations, and ensuring proper accrual accounting for employee compensation, benefits, and stock activity. The Senior Payroll Accountant will take on greater ownership of complex reconciliations and provide guidance on accounting treatments. Both positions play a key role in supporting payroll system upgrades, ensuring compliance with internal controls and company policies, and maintaining accurate records for audits and regulatory purposes. WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Handle payroll accounting, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, and general ledger entries
  • Manage PTO/vacation reserve tracking and year-end vacation payouts
  • Process cash clearing transactions and employee stock purchase reconciliations
  • Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries to the general ledger
  • Reconcile payroll accounts, including wages payable, taxes, and benefits
  • Analyze payroll variances and resolve discrepancies
  • Maintain accurate payroll records for audits and regulatory purposes
  • Monitor and reconcile benefit-related accounts
  • Assist with internal and external audits related to payroll
  • Provide explanations to cost center owners regarding employee transactions
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls and company policies
  • Identify and implement improvements to payroll processes
  • Support payroll system upgrades or implementations

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 1–3 years of accounting experience with exposure to payroll accounting or payroll finance support (Junior); 4+ years with direct payroll accounting responsibilities in a large enterprise (Senior)
  • Working knowledge of general ledger accounting, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliation
  • Strong command of GL accounting, accruals, reconciliation, and payroll-related accounting treatments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs (Junior); Advanced Excel skills — pivot tables, Power Query, financial modeling (Senior)
  • Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA or comparable ERP system preferred (Junior); SAP S/4HANA and Blackline experience required; ADP familiarity a plus (Senior)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred or actively pursuing (Senior)
  • Experience with ADP GlobalView and SmartCompliance in a large enterprise payroll environment preferred
  • Blackline reconciliation platform experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to maintain accurate payroll records for audits and regulatory purposes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to resolve payroll variances and discrepancies
  • Excellent communication skills to provide explanations to cost center owners and support audits
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure adherence to internal controls and company policies
  • Experience supporting payroll system upgrades or implementations
