Investment Operations Specialist II – Settlement Operations

Location: Charlotte, NC – Uptown

Work Model: Hybrid – 3 days onsite / 2 days remote

Contract: 3-Month Contract with intended conversion to full-time based on performance and business need

Calculated Hire is seeking a Investment Operations Specialist to join a large financial services organization supporting its securities settlement operations team in Charlotte, NC. This position will support post-trade processing and settlement activity while partnering with internal teams, brokers, custodians, and other counterparties to ensure transactions settle accurately and within required market deadlines.

This is a 3-month W2 contract-to-hire opportunity. The team intends to convert the selected candidate to a full-time employee following the initial contract period based on performance and business need.

What You’ll Do

• Support daily securities settlement and post-trade processing activities across the trade lifecycle.
• Monitor transactions through settlement and identify trades requiring additional investigation or action.
• Research and resolve settlement breaks, failed trades, exceptions, and discrepancies within established market deadlines.
• Review settlement instructions and help ensure trades are positioned correctly for settlement.
• Perform reconciliations and investigate differences between internal books and records and external settlement information.
• Partner with brokers, custodians, counterparties, trading partners, and internal operations teams to resolve outstanding issues.
• Research transaction details and determine the appropriate action or escalation path for settlement-related exceptions.
• Maintain accurate documentation and follow established operational procedures and controls.
• Communicate clearly regarding outstanding trades, risks, breaks, and required follow-up.
• Take ownership of assigned work while remaining adaptable and receptive to coaching and feedback.

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience in securities settlements, investment operations, trading operations, or post-trade operations.
• Working knowledge of the trade lifecycle and how transactions move from execution through settlement.
• Experience researching and resolving settlement breaks, failed trades, exceptions, or reconciliation discrepancies.
• Exposure to DTC/DTCC settlement processes strongly preferred.
• Experience reviewing settlement instructions and monitoring transaction status.
• Experience performing operational or trade reconciliations.
• Familiarity with books and records and maintaining accurate transaction data.
• Experience with Broadridge is preferred.
• Experience with other trade processing, matching, clearing, reconciliation, or settlement platforms is also valuable.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to work effectively under market deadlines and cutoffs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ownership, problem-solving ability, coachability, and willingness to learn.
